UGC NET Examination Pattern
The 2025 UGC NET exam will be conducted as a computer-based test. There will be two papers in the test:
- Paper I – General Paper
The UGC NET general paper aims to test the candidates’ knowledge in topics such as teaching, research aptitude, reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness.
The test will comprise 50 questions for 100 marks. Also, the paper is compulsory and common to candidates from all subject walks.
- Paper II – Subject
The subject in Paper II is compulsory. Candidates can only choose the subject they are eligible for. To choose a subject, the candidate must possess the respective educational qualification. Once the subject has been chosen during UGC NET 2025 registration, it cannot be changed later. All UGC NET examination paper II comprises 100 questions for 200 marks.
The time duration for both Paper I and Paper II is 3 hours (180 minutes). All questions in both papers are compulsory. Ensure that your responses to all questions have been marked during the UGC NET CBT. The tests for paper I and paper II will be continuous, which means there will be no break in between the papers..
