The Joint UGC-CSIR NET examination notification has been released on 10^th March 2023. The applications can be submitted through the official website viz., https://csirnet.nta.nic.in form 10^th March 2023 to 10^th April 2023. The exam will be conducted across five subjects. The main test papers include (1) Chemical Sciences, (2) Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, (3) Life Sciences, (4) Mathematical Sciences and (5) Physical Sciences.

What is CSIR NET?

Joint CSIR UGC NET is an exam conducted by the National Testing Agency to select appropriate candidates in Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship or as Assistant Professor across various Indian Colleges and Universities. The exam is been conducted in two cycles, one in June and the other in December. Those who fulfil the eligibility of JRF can also apply for Lectureship, provided their candidature is subject to the eligibility condition laid down by the Union Grants Commission (UGC). Whereas some aspirants are selected directly from the test based on the performance. The CSIR NET Fellowship is for a limited period or tenure and it doesn’t assure you any job in central government institutes or in CSIR. The conducting authority for this exam is given to NTA (National Testing Agency) and is conducted through CBT (Computer Based Test) and is regulated by the CSIR.

The upcoming CSIR NET exams are expected to be held on the month of June. The December 2022 cycle and the June 2023 cycle will be merged together as a single exam. And this would be a golden opportunity for aspirants who have already started their preparations for previous year end cycle. The official notification for the exam is expected to be out by the third week of February or by the first week of March, as per the MHRD’s twitter handle. CSIR Exam eligibility

The minimum eligibility to attempt this exam is to have a M.Sc. or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/ B. Tech/ B. Pharma/ MBBS with 55% marks (without rounding off) for General Category and 50% marks (without rounding off) for PwBD (Personal with Bench mark disability)/ OBC category/ Third gender. Also, students in the final years of the qualifying degree are eligible to apply for the Fellowship only but not for the Lectureship. The minimum cut-offs for PwBD (Personal with Bench mark disability)/ OBC category/ Third gender will be the lowest for their concerned subjects.

CSIR NET Age Limit

The maximum upper age limit to be eligible for JRF is 28 years and it is relaxable up to 5 years for SC, ST, Third gender, PwBD, Females, OBC and General-EWS. However, there is no age limit for Lectureship (LS) or Assistant Professor.

CSIR NET Application form

The candidates should go through the notification thoroughly and keep aside all the requisite documents before starting the application process online. The candidates are required to keep their Board certificates (enter the credentials as per the certificates), qualifying degree certificates, type of identification (Identity cards like Aadhar, voters ID, Bank passbook etc), mailing address with pin code, minority community certificates (if applicable), scanned images of photo and sign (jpeg format) and also know about the exam centres and subject codes.

CSIR NET 2023 Examination: How to Apply?

Candidates can apply online by visiting the official website. Modes of submission other than online are not entertained. Here, we have mentioned below the simple steps to follow while applying online.

• Register for online form submission using your email-id and mobile number.
• Using the system generated application number, fill all the required credentials.
• Upload the scanned images of photograph, signature and the qualifying certificates.
• Now, you will be directed to the payment panel where you can complete the payment using Net-banking, UPI, credit or debit cards.
• On successful completion of the payment, you will receive an intimation from the NTA.

How to Prepare CSIR NET Mathematics?

The official site of CSIR HRDG contains the detailed syllabus for Mathematics. Aspirants can refer to the syllabus demarcated for each section. The candidates should analyse the syllabus and the marking scheme for each section. Since there are negative marks for wrong attempts, the students should take extra care while answering sessions with high weightage for negative marks.

The part A is a general paper for all streams where the candidate’s reasoning ability, numerical ability, graphical analysis and data interpretation. Some of the important topics for Mathematics part B and part C are Analysis, Linear Algebra, Complex Analysis, Topology, Ordinary Differential equations (ODEs), Partial Differential equations (PDEs), Numerical Analysis, Calculus of Variations, Linear Integral Equations, Classical Mechanics, Descriptive Statistics and Explorative Data analysis. The most advantageous section for Mathematics is part C, where you don’t have any negative marks, so try to attempt maximum number of questions from this part after completing the easy ones from all sections.

How to Prepare CSIR NET Physical Science?

Physical Science too follow a similar Aptitude paper for part A, where you have to attempt any 15 questions from the set of 20 questions. Unlike Mathematics, all the sections in Physical Science carry a fixed percentage of negative mark for wrong attempt. The negative mark is fixed as 25% of the actual value allocated for each section. The B and C sections main topics can be generalised as Mathematical methods for Physics, Classical Mechanics, Electromagnetic Theory, Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamic and Statistical Physics, Electronics and Experimental Methods, advanced topics like Atomic and Molecular Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Nuclear and Particle Physics. Candidates attempting Physics paper should try to give more attempts in section A and B, because section C has more negative marking.

How to Prepare CSIR NET Chemical Science?

Students of Chemistry have a total of 120 questions to attempt. The prime topics include Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, interdisciplinary topics like Chemistry in nanoscience and technology, Catalysis and Green Chemistry, Supramolecular Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry. The negative marking is fixed at 25% of the actual value allocated for each section.

How To Prepare CSIR NET Life Science?

Life Science paper comprises a total of 145 questions, with negative marking fixed at 25% for all the sections. The main topics include ‘Molecules and their interaction relevant to Biology’, ‘Cellular Organization’, ‘Fundamental Processes’, ‘Cell Communication’ and ‘Cell Signalling’, ‘Developmental Biology’, ‘System Physiology-Plant’, ‘System Physiology-Animal’, ‘Inheritance Biology’, ‘Diversity of Life forms’, ‘Ecological Principles’, ‘Evolution and Behaviour’, ‘Applied Biology and Methods in Biology’.
